Butterfly Background Technique

One of my favourite techniques to create a background is to use Distress Oxide inks and butterfly stamps. The Butterfly Background Technique!

The following video shows this beautiful technique:

1. Use various colours of Distress Oxide inks (I used Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Mustard Seed, Mermaid Lagoon) and different sizes of butterfly stamps for this technique.
2. Just stamp random butterflies in different colours and sizes on a piece of cardstock.
3. It is a good idea to place a rubber stamping pad or a foam sheet underneath the cardstock. This gives you something to stamp into and improves the stamped image that you will get.
4. When it is touch dry, mist the cardstock with some water (lift it up a bit) and watch as the dye part of the Distress Oxide ink runs down the cardstock and the pigment part stays put.
5. It creates a beautiful mottled butterfly effect!
6. Use pastel colours to give it a softer feel.

You can use this background for your Spring/Summer projects or any other “happy” projects.

• Smooth Cardstock – white
