Wendy Vecchi Translucent Embossing Paste

Translucent Embossing Paste for Crafting

various uses for wendy vecchi translucent embossing paste

This product is part of Part 2 of the Playing with Gels & Pastes series, where I explore the individual gels and pastes included in my experiments.

Wendy Vecchi Translucent Embossing Paste is designed to create texture and dimension on craft projects.

The product instructions recommend spreading it through a stencil with a palette knife or applying it directly to a surface to create texture.

Once dry, it can also be tinted with water-based inks and acrylic paints.

I included this product in my Getting to Know Your Gels & Pastes experiments to find out how it behaves and explore some of the different ways it can be used in crafting.

Interestingly, I found this product very similar to the Couture Creations Gloss Texture Paste.

Characteristics

The Translucent Embossing Paste has a light, fluffy consistency and is relatively thin and easy to spread.

It dries clear and very glossy, with a really smooth finish. Once dry, it remains flexible and does not crack.

Ways to Use Translucent Embossing Paste

Stencilling

This paste works very well through a stencil, making it a good option for adding clear, dimensional designs to a background.

As recommended in the product instructions, hold the stencil firmly in place or secure it with low-tack tape while applying the paste.

Create an Ink Resist

The dried paste creates a great ink resist.

Ink can be blended over the dried surface while the areas covered by the paste resist the ink, allowing the glossy design underneath to remain visible.

Paint Over It

The paste can be painted over once it is dry, giving you another way to incorporate it into backgrounds and mixed media projects.

Use It as an Adhesive

This paste has very good adhesive properties. In my experiments, it successfully adhered both a button and sand to cardstock.

Those adhesive properties also make it useful for some other decorative techniques.

Heat Embossing and Foiling

Embossing powder adhered well to the paste, making it suitable for heat embossing.

It also worked well for adhering foil, adding another option for creating shiny and dimensional effects.

Tint the Paste

The Translucent Embossing Paste tinted very well, making it possible to change the colour of the paste to coordinate with your project.

Silicone Moulds

This product did not work well in a silicone mould.

The paste appeared not to dry properly inside the mould, so this is not a technique I would recommend using it for.

My Favourite Uses

  • Glossy stencil designs
  • Ink resist
  • Heat embossing
  • Foiling
  • Adhesive
  • Custom colours

Not recommended for: Silicone moulds

I would reach for this when: I want a clear, glossy dimensional effect, particularly when working through a stencil or creating an ink-resist background.
