I love to use splats on my crafting projects and scrapbook pages. It can be used to create backgrounds or to add interest to a project. I want to show you how easy it is to make the perfect splat!

Technique:
The following video shows this technique beautifully:
- You will need:
- A craft sheet
- Some brushes
- Some water-based paint or ink
- Water
- We will use 3 different brushes, a fan brush, a normal paint brush and a Tim Holtz splatter brush from Ranger. Then you can decide what kind of splat you like the most.
- I prefer to use a fan brush and inks to make my splats. My favourite inks to use are Distress Oxide Inks from Ranger and Tsukineko All-purpose Inks, but you can use any ink or paint that will mix with a little bit of water.
- If the ink is in an inkpad format, just stamp some ink on the craft sheet and mix it with some water to make it liquid!
- Wet your brush with water and pick up some colour.
- Now tap on the brush to create the perfect splats on your page.
- For bigger splats use a bigger/thicker brush and for finer splats, a finer brush.
- The splatter brush bristles get pulled in an upward direction and then let go. It creates the perfect “Tim Holtz” splats.
- I have found that the fan-type brush spreads the splats over a bigger area, so it goes a bit faster.
- Play with your different brushes and find the perfect SPLAT for you!
- Try some metallic paints or inks to add sparkle to your projects!
