How to use Heat Embossing in projects

Heat embossing project

Heat embossing is a very versatile technique. In this post I would like to focus on the different ways in which heat embossing can be used when creating a scrapbooking or crafting project.

Remember that your photos should always be the most important part of your page. On this page I used heat embossing in different ways to enhance the photos and preserve the moment!

Method:

I used various pieces of cardstock and patterned paper cut into blocks and strips with my guillotine to create a custom background for my photo’s. I inked the edges of the cardstock and patterned papers with Vintage Photo distress ink and my blending tool.

Heat embossing with stamping

I stamped decorative images with the VersaMark watermark stamp pad and covered it with gold embossing powder. I used the Craft It heat tool to heat up the embossing powder and create a unique embellishment on my page.

To add some texture to a tag, I stamped a background image stamp on a cardstock tag with the VersaMark watermark stamp pad and heat embossed it with the gold embossing powder.

Heat embossing with stencils

A similar look can be achieved when using a stencil with the Emboss It dabber and gold embossing powder.

Heat embossed embellishments

I used my Emboss It dabber to cover some giant silver brads with gold embossing powder. I heated it up with the Craft It heat tool and it gave a beautiful result, giving me brads that are a better colour to go with my page. A whole variety of embellishments can be changed in this way.

The chipboard title was also covered with the Emboss It dabber and gold embossing powder and heat embossed.

Some fun ways to use heat embossing!

ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Heat embossing uses a very hot heat tool to melt the embossing powder. This is not a hair dryer even though they might sometimes look similar! Only use the heat tool for crafting and be careful not to burn yourself. Work on a suitable heat resistant surface like a Tim Holtz glass mat to protect your working surface. From experience I can tell you it is not advisable to put your heat resistant mat on top of a self-healing cutting mat as the heat is still enough to warp your cutting mat.

To complete the page I added some paper flowers, a ribbon, a stamped date and some paper sayings.
