Delicata Ink

Properties of Delicata Ink

Delicata Ink from Tsukineko is an exquisite metallic ink. I used Golden Glitz to conduct my tests.

(Please note that this ink was included in the original test documents from the Playing with Inks range, and the results documented in the downloadable table)

Let’s see what else we can learn about this ink:

The label describes it as a metallic, water-based, fast-drying, pigment ink that will not tarnish or lose its luster.

Delicata ink is available in a range of metallic colours and comes in a standard stamp pad, a mini pad and a re-inker.

Stamping with Delicata Ink:

It gives a clear, solid, shiny stamped image. I must admit that I have had this ink for a while but have never used it up to now and I am in love with this stamped image!

I painted the dried stamped image with water and alcohol and only a little bit of the shimmer pigment was moved. (I hope you can see this on the photo, I found it extremely difficult to photograph!)

Being a pigment ink, the dark background posed no problem and a beautiful, clear image can be seen.

The ink stamped well on the glossy photo paper, but the image was not as solid as on the porous white cardstock.

Other uses for Delicata Ink:

The ink is water-based, and it easily blends with water to create decorative splats and it can be used as a watercolour-type paint.

Gesso and gel medium were coloured very well with the Delicata ink. The gesso did not show the shimmer though.

Properties of Delicata Ink, colouring gels and pastes

Delicata ink worked perfectly for blending, stenciling and chalking. I did however find that it is not as solid when “moved” on the paper and gives a delicate shimmer instead of a solid colour. I love the effect, but it might not be what you want to achieve when using these techniques. It does not mean that the ink was unsuccessful, but just keep it in mind.

Even though it is a fast-drying ink, it performed remarkably well when used for heat embossing. Another surprise I didn’t expect.

My Conclusion about Delicata Ink:

I have never used this ink on my projects before, but after conducting these tests I will be investing in a couple more colours and I will be using it all over for stamping, colouring and adding a beautiful shimmer to my scrapbook pages and other craft projects!

I hope this inspires you to dig out some inks that you haven’t used in a long time and test them to see what they can do!
