Tsukineko’s Brilliance ink is a really fun ink to use! It performed exceptionally well in my set of tests. I used Brilliance Pearlescent Rust for my tests.
(Please note that this ink was included in the original test documents from the Playing with Inks range, and the results documented in the downloadable table)
Let’s look at the properties of Brilliance ink:
According to the label and Tsukineko this is a fast-drying pigment ink made to apply to uncoated paper, coated paper, vellum, photos, tanned leather, cellophane, unpainted wood, polymer clay, shrink plastic and terracotta.

It is available in a standard pad, dewdrop and a re-inker. I use the dewdrop version. This smaller ink pad makes it easy to store and keep a variety of the different colours available.
All the Tsukineko dewdrops are stackable and the Brilliance dewdrop is distinguishable from the others as it has a pearlescent lid and bottom.

Stamping with Brilliance Ink:
This ink gives a clear image when stamped, showing all the detail of the stamp perfectly. The Pearlescent and Metallic versions of Brilliance (like the Pearlescent Rust I used) will give a shiny image.

It seems like only the metallic pigment of the dry stamped image was moved by water. The alcohol did not move the dried image at all.

Pigment inks like Brilliance shows up well on dark backgrounds.

Brilliance is known to be an ink that can stamp on photos and during the testing it didn’t disappoint. It dries quite fast so there is little chance of smudging.

Other uses for Brilliance Ink:
Brilliance is water-based as it easily mixes with water. This makes it perfect to use as a watercolour-type paint and it creates perfect splats.

The gel medium was coloured perfectly with the Brilliance ink and the pearlescent shine is still visible. The gesso however was coloured but none of the pearlescence can be seen.

Brilliance is a creamy ink and it “moves” very well on paper, making it a perfect ink for stenciling, chalking and ink blending.

Heat embossing with Brilliance is easy and it gives a stunning result!

My Conclusion about Brilliance Ink:
I like to use Brilliance to add detail to embellishments and pages when I scrap. Shiny splats always give a nice touch to a page or embellishment. I also use it to stamp or even colour titles for my pages. Shiny heat embossed images and titles stand out so nicely!

This is not necessarily all the ways you can use Brilliance, but I hope it gives you a good idea where to start! Remember to play and find new and interesting ways to make your projects sparkle with Brilliance!
