Tsukineko’s VersaMagic ink is a very versatile ink. It is also the first ink that I tested and as expected, it performed quite well. I used VersaMagic Turquoise Gem for my tests.
(Please note that this ink was included in the original test documents from the Playing with Inks range, and the results documented in the downloadable table)
Let’s look at VersaMagic’s properties:
A water-based pigment ink with a soft chalk finish. Made to apply to various surfaces (according to the manufacturer) including uncoated paper, coated paper, vellum, photos, leather, unpainted wood, polymer clay, shrink plastic and terracotta.

It is available in a standard pad and dewdrop version. I use the dewdrop version. This smaller ink pad makes it easy to store and keep a variety of the different colours available, making it easy to coordinate with most scrapbook pages or crafting projects.
All the Tsukineko dewdrops are stackable and the VersaMagic dewdrop is distinguishable from the others as it has a clear lid and white bottom.

Stamping with VersaMagic Ink:
This ink gives a clear opaque image when stamped. It does not come in metallic colours and it is a matt chalk ink, so the image will not be shiny.

I was very surprised that after the stamped image was dry, I could paint over it with both water and alcohol without moving the ink. I would have thought that a water-based ink will be moved by water.

It is a pigment ink and that makes it perfect to stamp on a dark background.

When stamped on glossy photo paper it gives a clear image. Just make sure not to touch it until it is completely dry.

Other uses for VersaMagic Ink:
VersaMagic is water-based so it blends easily with water. This makes it perfect to use as a watercolour-type paint and it creates perfect splats.

Gel medium and gesso are easily coloured with VersaMagic.

VersaMagic is a creamy ink and it “moves” very well on paper. For this reason, it is good to use with stencils, to chalk page edges and to blend with on paper.

It takes a while to dry and makes a good base to do heat embossing on.

My Conclusion about VersaMagic Ink:
Personally, I often use VersaMagic to colour white paper flowers to match my scrapbook pages and crafting projects. I also do a lot of edge chalking with VersaMagic.

I hope this gives you a good summary of how you can use VersaMagic. This is not necessarily all the ways that you can use it, remember to play with your inks to find new and interesting ways to incorporate it into your craft projects.
